New Balance Abzorb 2000 ‘Metallic Silver’ Release Date U20003OZ

After delivering a new behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Abzorb 2000 with designer Charlotte Lee, New Balance is readying fresh colorways of the Y2K-inspired sneaker, one of which is already available right now.

The New Balance Abzorb 2000 was just released in a new Metallic Silver/Faded Black colorway which accentuates its futuristic design. It’s built around a faded black mesh upper that’s overlaid with various shades of silver and gray.

The silver colors in particular heighten the model’s 2000s-informed design language, which Lee told FN in June was inspired by imaging what designers from the era could pull off with today’s technologies. The result is a vis-tech, nearly no-sew sneaker which was conceptualized with the use of a virtual reality design tool. 

“I immersed myself in it,” Lee said of the software. “I learned a lot. I did a crash course. I spent hours, I think I was New Balance’s number-one Gravity Sketch user for quite some time because it got addictive in a way. You could physically build with your hands, in VR, a physical object and see it and turn it around and spin it around and scale it, and you could get so deep into that model, you could zoom in like, however many thousand percent.”

Following the launch of the new Metallic Silver/Faded Black colorway, New Balance will begin introducing more colorful styles of the sneaker heading into spring. The brand teased a neon green Limelight/Dry Lime look which is set for an April release.

And athough 2026 is just getting underway, New Balance has already unveiled even more new lifestyle models. In January, the Boston-based company introduced the low-profile Gator Run and at Paris Fashion Week, a futuristic 5030 sneaker was previewed in collaboration with Italian retailer Slam Jam.
